The Tortoise and the Hare
Wandering into the Scully & Scully interior design department in persuit of two leather chairs and an ottoman, Pat French turned to a friendly, sandy-haired man for suggestions. That man was Jonathen Tait. He gave her feedback that she appreciated, and she told him of how she had been advised to get rid of all the old furniture in her home. She did not want to do this, and Tait did not think she had to. He knew that he could work with her to renew the look of her house without her having to lose cherished possessions and the history they held for the family.
Tait's first visit to the French's house was the start of a mutually delightful relationship. As construction was underway, the interior designer was able to consult with the builders on where lighting might be placed and discuss potential usages of newly created space with Pat French. The more the two collaborated, the more the trust between them grew.
"It was a wonderful joint effort. He and I worked so well together", Pat French says. "Jonathan was such a pleasure".
"I'm successful when my client is happy. My specialty is working with what people have, bringing out their personality", Tait proclaims.
The family room, the Dining room, the Living Room, the Kitchen, all taken under Jonathans wing. It's no wonder why he has been with Scully & Scully - a gracious, expert provider of the world's finest home furnishings and gifts. Even the needlepoint pillows in the Library are a perfect example of the highly personalized and warm tone that has been set in the traditional Colonial owned by Pat and Ellis French, decorated in collaboration.
After 34 years of dreaming about expanding their space, Pat and Ellis French have finally won. A comfortable, happy, entertaining family, relaxing in style, in their East Hampton home.
