Scully & Scully is the foremost retailer of Herend China, one of Hungary's
finest exports. Since 1826 Herend has been producing exquisite porcelain
figurines and china in the small village of Herend, two hours southwest of
Budapest. Each piece of China is meticulously made and hand-painted;
there are over 700 fine artists. Two of the company''s most famous patterns
are Queen Victoria and Rothschild Bird. Queen Victoria was named by the
Queen after she purchased an entire set for herself during its introduction
at an exhibit in London. Traditionally, Queen Victoria is a bright multi
colored collection of playful butterflies and brightly painted flowers, but
over the years Herend China has produced Queen Victoria in many solid colors
as well, including blue and pink. Rothschild Bird was created in 1860 for
the Baron and Baroness de Rothschild, one of Europe's well known families.
Rothschild Bird is considered by many connoisseurs to be the paragon of hand
painting on porcelain. Rothschild Bird is available in twelve different bird
motifs, all depicting the legend of how the Baroness lost her necklace in
her Vienna garden, making it one of Herend's most collectible patterns.
Herend Porcelain is also famous for its many animal figurines and
collectibles. The figurines are painted in its famous "fishnet" pattern in
many different colors and are considered highly collectible by Herend
lovers the world over.
