One of their more lighthearted activities includes their annual scratching ritual - in early spring they shed layers of their winter coats - in synchronicity with the rising temperatures - by rubbing their bodies on tree stumps. This process not only removes excess fur but also marks the tree with their scent to signify their presence to other bears. A heartwarming scene of a mallard duck family, with the trademark fishnet pattern. The family is seen posing over logs, with the adult mallard ducks leading the way. Mallards are known as “dabbling ducks” because they feed on the surface rather than by diving. In the case of Herend’s version, this inclination to stay topside is surely driven by the fact that they can optimize the number of admiring glances their beautiful, painted plumage will garner. Alternating colors of striking green, brown and 24k gold highlights can be seen in their feathers, with terracotta fishnet staying consistent across their bodies. Their coy expression could be attributed to the fact that they know a secret: the logs they are sitting on aren’t real. When hunting, it is known for spectacular dives with wings closed, called “stoops”, that can begin up to 3,000 feet above its intended target and reach speeds of up to 200 miles per hour as it drops towards its prey. Considered an elite predator, immortalizing it in porcelain required an equally dramatic figurine. Named after the colorful robes of Imperial Chinese officers (mandarins), these fish are surprisingly shy considering their appearance.
