Two impressive painting techniques combined in one striking figurine: symphonic fishnet coupled with faux bois! Two Canadian ducks pose in their feathery finest with alternating colors of yellow, green, brown and terracotta fishnet offset by dramatic gold highlights. Their coy expression could be attributed to the fact that they know a secret: the logs they are sitting on aren’t real. Herend artists have done a masterful job painting in the faux bois style and only a close-inspection reveals the true porcelain composition. Limited Edition 250.

Herend Reserve Rothschild Bird Covered Urn $4,255
In 1860, the story of Baroness Rothschild losing her pearl necklace in her Vienna garden and it being found hanging from a tree branch surrounded by birds inspired the creation of the Rothschild Bird pattern. The design was so well-received that similar designs were produced by almost every major European porcelain manufacturer. This covered urn celebrates Rothschild Bird and all of its many moods and was introduced to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the pattern. Featuring all 12 motifs as well as all of the border colors that have been presented over the years, the urn is inscribed with a special commemorative anniversary logo which reads “Rothschild Bird 150th Anniversary”. Herend Reserve Flamingo Duet $4,335
While the bird and the dance have the same name in Spanish (flamenco), the two are not connected. Yet, there is an uncanny similarity in the graceful and proud upright carriage that both embody and how synonymous the lower body has become with each. With the dance, the explosive stomping of feet imparts the passion of the story being told. For the bird, the stereotypical pose with one leg elevated is driven by less romantic incentives. The main motivation for curling the leg up under the body is thermoregulation- it keeps the foot warm and conserves body heat since the birds spend most of their day in water. While it may not be the flamenco, Herend’s Flamingo Duet presents 2 flamingos in a dance of their own creation. It also features the world-wide debut of a new symphony of fishnet colors in light orange, raspberry and rust. While flamingos don’t eat carrots, it is the beta carotene found in their food supply that imparts them with such beautiful pigmentation. Ranging from light pink to bright red, the more colorful the flamingo, the more attractive he is to the opposite sex. It is also this brilliant display of color that gave rise to the name since “flamingo” has its origins in the French/ Provençal “flamenc" meaning “fire-bird”. Limited Edition Size 250.

Herend Reserve Swirl Hen $1,335
While the hands are busy, the artistic mind wanders to dreams of a variation on a theme of fishnet. Not quite a revolt, but after 153 years of painting the fishnet pattern, the creative team at Herend wanted to spread their wings. A chance to make a change at once both subtle and bold where a quick glance would still reflect the rhythmic pattern of fishnet but further scrutiny would reveal an altered state. Similar to the way the internal mirrors of a kaleidoscope adjust reality and reflect things back in a new geometric fashion, the artists at Herend pushed fishnet to the furthest corners of their imagination to see what they could find. Many new patterns were created and two were deemed dramatic enough to make their debut. It was a rooster figurine in 1858 which first enticed a painter to dress a figurine in Herend’s signature fishnet pattern. Of course, the ensuing fame only added to the rooster’s bravado around the farmyard. With word of two new patterns making their grand entrance in 2011, the long-suffering hens marched on the manufactory and demanded equal time in the spotlight. They are proud to feature one of their own in a dramatic debut of swirls and curls and kaleidoscope dreams. Limited Edition 100.

Herend Reserve Rooster Fishnet Rainbow Colors $5,275
A magnificent new fishnet design premiers on Herend’s classic rooster, a commanding figure designed by Sandor Keleti in 1924. For the first time in Herend’s 182-year history, a harmonious medley of fishnet colors is composed in concert to create a synchronized fishnet symphony. The product of 17 craftspeople, each rooster requires 19 hours to paint. Herend’s traditional single-colorway fishnet design first took shape in 1874, when an artist was inspired by a Chinese plate’s fish scale design and replicated it onto a rooster figurine’s breast to imitate feathers. In keeping with tradition, Herend again chose a rooster to model the unprecedented symphonic fishnet design. Limited edition of 250.

Herend Reserve Spotted Sandpiper on Driftwood $1,975
Mother nature perfected him and now Herend’s artists have immortalized the famous little shorebird often found darting along the water’s edge doing his memorable bobbing dance. With stilt-like legs designed for standing in water and a long beak ideal for digging for coastal creatures, the sandpiper is a common presence along beaches (but can actually be found anywhere with water). In the hands of Herend’s artists, the sandpiper makes his debut in dramatic fashion from his striking coloration to the swirls of texture on the driftwood to the natural painting on the shells so detailed they appear plucked from nature. Of course, not wanting to reduce his ability to win over the ladies, the male finch's Herend-style transformation keeps his normal red coloring but the artists have added exuberant pops of pinks and oranges so the finch is sure to keep the love of his girl. Herend Reserve Birds and Nest $1,450
Hopefully mother bird is an early riser and got her worm because she clearly has a hungry chick on her hands with more about to come! One thing she has to be less concerned about is safety because father bird created the perfect little home for this songbird family and wove a tight little nest hidden among the tree branches. Of course, like all discerning women, she tested his building skills first and only picked the suitor that offered her the best sanctuary. While the scene is sweetly familiar, what is new is the type of bird. Bird watchers should rejoice in seeing this recently discovered species which originated in Hungary but is starting to be spotted by birders all over North America. With dramatic plumage in raspberry, various shades of orange and 24k gold, sightings are starting to come in from east to west coast as this new species clearly establishes itself in a new location.

Herend Reserve Pelicans on Pier $1,915
These gregarious birds are one of North America’s largest and, in flight, they soar gracefully on broad wings - a sight which has led many to describe their appearance as majestic (on land they are a bit ungainly). To properly convey the remarkable presence of these birds, Herend’s artists have taken some artistic license since the pelican’s normal subdued coloring stands in stark contrast to their colorful personalities. That said, their famous silhouette with its pronounced long bill means these birds are recognizable regardless of the style of camouflage. Limited edition of 175.

Herend Reserve Fruit Dove $1,595
A notoriously shy bird, there is still much to learn about the fruit dove but one known fact, as their name implies, is that these avian beauties eat fruit and berries. Native to Southeast Asia and Oceania, ornithologists will no doubt be perplexed when this species starts popping up in North America; however, with vibrant colors provided by mother nature and exquisite details enhanced by the artists at Herend, interest in this enigmatic bird will certainly lure it to distant shores.Limited Edition of 150.

Herend Reserve Weather Vane $2,095
A strong north wind blows in Herend today and the locals say this means cold weather is coming. While modern technology may end up providing a different weather report, the rooster is merely doing what he has been doing since the 9th century AD when a papal edict stipulated that each church must be adorned by a cockerel. Since many church steeples already featured a weather vane, it was a natural step for the rooster to become the default weather vane motif. While his traditional copper coloration is nothing new for a weather vane, it is the first time a Herend figurine has been painted in this fishnet color (with additional drama provided by the new blue, sapphire, on the wings, tail-feathers and base). However, contrary to his brethren in the field, the patina of Herend’s weather vane will never change with oxidation and his heart remains forever porcelain. Limited edition size of 100.

Herend Reserve Pair of Macaws $2,475
A rare quiet moment in the life of two macaws is beautifully captured in this sweet vignette. Gregarious, vocal parrots, macaws will mate for life and tend to live in large “talkative” family groups. Their plumage is as spirited as the bird and, while it seems counterintuitive, serves as a protective device by blending in well among the colorful fruits, flowers and bluish-shadows of the macaw’s rainforest home. With no subtle sparrow at hand, the artists at Herend knew they had to create an exotic medley of fishnet colors as vibrant as the birds themselves. Pulling from the full spectrum of the rainbow, yellow, key lime and all shades of blue converge to create a tropical tableau. Limited Edition Size of 150.

Herend Reserve Toucan $1,285
Also described as the “rainbow-billed” toucan, these birds are gregarious in both coloration and behavior. Known for croak-like calls that can be heard a ½ mile away, keel-billed toucans like to be social and playful and are considered one of the noisiest birds in the jungle. While this South American bird reflects the effervescence of his native land, his aerial acrobatics cannot be described as having any Latin rhythm. Keel-bill toucans are notoriously awkward fliers and prefer to hop- perhaps to better show off their lovely blue pedicure. The hallmark of the toucan is their colorful bill and yet the origin of its unusual size (it can be almost as big as the bird) and color are not fully understood. Some experts propose the beak is used for thermoregulation. Others theorize that the beak may intimidate smaller birds or it allows the toucans to exploit a feeding niche by being able to pluck fruit off of branches too small to bear their weight. What is known is that while the bills appear heavy- they are actually hollow and lightweight and made out of thin rods of bone and keratin. Limited Edition Size 250.

Herend Reserve Mallard Duck Family $5,950
A heartwarming scene of a mallard duck family, with the trademark fishnet pattern. The family is seen posing over logs, with the adult mallard ducks leading the way. Mallards are known as “dabbling ducks” because they feed on the surface rather than by diving. In the case of Herend’s version, this inclination to stay topside is surely driven by the fact that they can optimize the number of admiring glances their beautiful, painted plumage will garner. Alternating colors of striking green, brown and 24k gold highlights can be seen in their feathers, with terracotta fishnet staying consistent across their bodies. Their coy expression could be attributed to the fact that they know a secret: the logs they are sitting on aren’t real. Herend artists have done a masterful job hand-painting each mallard duck, and only a close inspection can reveal the true porcelain composition. Limited edition of 150.
