Every figurine is individually cast from a mold that was carefully engraved in slabs of slate. Each mold's "life" is limited to about one thousand castings after which a new mold has to be carved to ensure the quality and richness of even the tiniest detail. This wonderful trompe l'oeil table, handmade in Italy of leather over wood, appears to be a stack of large old books but in fact offers two forms of storage. What looks like the top three books is actually a storage space with a lift top, and what looks like the bottom book is a drawer. A superb example of the clock made by the London maker Joseph Knibb (1640-1711) with a triple chime movement. The walnut case is decorated with burr walnut veneers and fine marquetry panels. The marquetry depicts birds and flower motifs popular in cabinet work of the William and Mary period. The hood is decorated with barley twist pillars and hand cut fretwork. The solid brass dial has cherub spandrels, silver plated chapter ring and blue lacquered period hands. The marquetry panels are created using boxwood, pear wood, walnut, satinwood and black-dyed sycamore. The cabinet has a hand rubbed waxed finish. Exclusively at Scully & Scully.

Herend Chinoiserie had no parallel in 19th-century porcelain and it is this creative period that gave rise to the shape of this elaborate water pitcher with a stylized Chinese water dragon handle. It would take until the 21st century before it was paired with the elaborate Jiangxi pattern. The result is both an homage on the part of Herend artists to their brothers in the East as well as a bit of a competitive tweak. For while the Jiangxi pattern was inspired by the Far East, it was designed by Herend artists who deliberately endowed it with a significant name. Jiangxi is a province in China that houses the city of Jingdezhen otherwise known as the Capital of Porcelain. It takes 2 painters a combined total of 65 hours to create this masterpiece. Handmade and handpainted porcelain from Hungary.
