Details

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force on 1st April 2018, Halcyon Days has crafted by hand this prestige enamel box featuring a hand painted reproduction of Douglas Granville Chandor's portrait of Sir Winston Churchill in RAF uniform. Churchill was an Honorary Air Commodore of the RAF and captured the bravery of RAF pilots in his 1940 speech, "Never in the history of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." This inscription can be found inscribed on the inside lid of the box. Leather lined by hand with a supple navy leather, this magnificent example of British craftsmanship is worthy of the two icons it celebrates, the RAF and Sir Winston Churchill. The original artwork can be found in the National Portrait Gallery, London. Limited edition of 100.

Measures 4¾" w x 5½" d x 1½" h.

Famous Words

by

This beautiful box is inscribed inside with the finest of all Winston Churchill's famous words: "Never in the history of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." Of course, he was referring to the brave young British pilots who won the Battle of Britain, thus driving Hitler his postpone his plan to invade England and instead to attack Russia, a disastrous decision that saved the world from Nazi domination.
