Enamel box reminds me of the true story of Gertie the Duck i

by

Gertie the Duck became famous in 1945 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the end of WWII.People were needing a happy story after so many years at war and Gertie and her ducklings filled that need.Gertie built her nest on the pilings in the Milwaukee River and up to 80,000 people a day came to see Gertie and her family. My Dad, Louis Romano a 6th grade teacher in Shorewood, a suburb of Milwaukee and Nicholas Georgiady, Principal in Whitefish Bay, also a suburb in Milwaukee wrote a first grade Reader based on the true storyIn 1957.It was published in 6 languages: French, Spanish, German, Danish, Swedish and English. It was published for over 70 years. Some famous people who have autographed copies include Rosie O’Donnell, Prince William of England and Chelsea Clinton to name a few. Your enameled box perfectly personifies theLove of Gertie and her family! I love it!!!
