This gorgeous tapestry reproduction depicts the 1784 design "Le portique de Junon" that currently hangs in Les Gobelins Museum in Paris. This design was produced by Morris & Co at Merton Abbey, Surrey, in 1883. The intricate design was created by William Morris, with the birds probably being drawn by Philip Webb. It was inspired by a real-life problem one that is familiar to many gardeners. In his garden at Kelmscott Manor, Morris tried to grow strawberries but found that these were always being eaten by greedy thrushes who managed to creep under the netting. Morris allowed them to do so enjoying their efforts to remove the strawberries. Recalling their attempts, he designed this remarkable furnishing textile pattern, taken directly from the natural world. The gentle humor in this pattern helped to make it one of Morriss's most successful creations.

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the classic Rothschild Bird pattern, Herend asked its artists to dream up and execute the crowning piece de esistance in tribute to Rothschild Bird. The submission of master artists Gyula Toth and Tamas Torok embodied the magic they sought. Herend asked master sculptor Zsolt Szaraka and master painter Sandor Vida to add their special touches, resulting in the magnificent Bravura Vase. Artists handcrafted 83 pieces and 99 flowers for the whiteware sculpture with twisting vines - birds - bugs - leaves - Japanese cherry trees - mushrooms and butterflies. The whiteware alone requires ten craftsmen two months to complete, and three top painters require more than 200 hours to paint it. The vase portrays a correlation between firmly planted roots and the promise for infinite growth and advancement. As we travel lifes twisting and turning path a strong foundation supports us to move steadily upward toward our personal summit as portrayed by the bird perched proudly on top.
