Herend Reserve Flamingo Duet $4,335
While the bird and the dance have the same name in Spanish (flamenco), the two are not connected. Yet, there is an uncanny similarity in the graceful and proud upright carriage that both embody and how synonymous the lower body has become with each. With the dance, the explosive stomping of feet imparts the passion of the story being told. For the bird, the stereotypical pose with one leg elevated is driven by less romantic incentives. The main motivation for curling the leg up under the body is thermoregulation- it keeps the foot warm and conserves body heat since the birds spend most of their day in water. While it may not be the flamenco, Herend’s Flamingo Duet presents 2 flamingos in a dance of their own creation. It also features the world-wide debut of a new symphony of fishnet colors in light orange, raspberry and rust. While flamingos don’t eat carrots, it is the beta carotene found in their food supply that imparts them with such beautiful pigmentation. Ranging from light pink to bright red, the more colorful the flamingo, the more attractive he is to the opposite sex. It is also this brilliant display of color that gave rise to the name since “flamingo” has its origins in the French/ Provençal “flamenc" meaning “fire-bird”. Limited Edition Size 250.

Herend Reserve Swirl Hen $1,335
While the hands are busy, the artistic mind wanders to dreams of a variation on a theme of fishnet. Not quite a revolt, but after 153 years of painting the fishnet pattern, the creative team at Herend wanted to spread their wings. A chance to make a change at once both subtle and bold where a quick glance would still reflect the rhythmic pattern of fishnet but further scrutiny would reveal an altered state. Similar to the way the internal mirrors of a kaleidoscope adjust reality and reflect things back in a new geometric fashion, the artists at Herend pushed fishnet to the furthest corners of their imagination to see what they could find. Many new patterns were created and two were deemed dramatic enough to make their debut. It was a rooster figurine in 1858 which first enticed a painter to dress a figurine in Herend’s signature fishnet pattern. Of course, the ensuing fame only added to the rooster’s bravado around the farmyard. With word of two new patterns making their grand entrance in 2011, the long-suffering hens marched on the manufactory and demanded equal time in the spotlight. They are proud to feature one of their own in a dramatic debut of swirls and curls and kaleidoscope dreams. Limited Edition 100.

Herend Reserve Rooster Fishnet Rainbow Colors $5,275
A magnificent new fishnet design premiers on Herend’s classic rooster, a commanding figure designed by Sandor Keleti in 1924. For the first time in Herend’s 182-year history, a harmonious medley of fishnet colors is composed in concert to create a synchronized fishnet symphony. The product of 17 craftspeople, each rooster requires 19 hours to paint. Herend’s traditional single-colorway fishnet design first took shape in 1874, when an artist was inspired by a Chinese plate’s fish scale design and replicated it onto a rooster figurine’s breast to imitate feathers. In keeping with tradition, Herend again chose a rooster to model the unprecedented symphonic fishnet design. Limited edition of 250.

Herend Reserve Carnival Man with Mask $3,685
Imre Schrammel, who served as artistic advisor to the Herend manufactory for a time, was inspired to design the carnival figurine series after experiencing Venetian Carnival first-hand. Schrammel, a world-renown ceramic artist, described the collaborative process with the Herend artists who bring to life his craft as that of a composer who has his work performed by a superlative orchestra. Similar to the Venetian revelers whose costumes become more elaborate every year, Schrammel has an appreciation for what Herend artists can accomplish using his Carnival series as a blank canvas. The transformation of the mysterious man and the enigmatic woman celebrates the 160th anniversary of the Queen Victoria pattern. Dramatic green stripes highlight peonies and butterflies while only a tell-tale scarf hints at the reveler behind the mask. Limited Edition Size 100.

Herend Reserve Macao Pair of Imperial Foo Dogs $3,150
With their origins in China, Herend’s Foo dogs are the perfect models to be dressed in the dramatic Chinoiserie pattern called Macao. This pattern first made its debut at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair where it helped lead the Herend manufactory to win a gold medal. The saturated tones of Macao are due to the fact that the pattern is painted in enamel colors. Enamel painting is a very difficult process in that the enamel has a unique density and more layers than normal are applied to create the rich pigmentation. However, it is a balancing act of beauty versus technical constraints because if one layer is applied unevenly, it can prevent the paint from adhering to the piece. Therefore, only seasoned artists, with their skills and knowledge, are entrusted with working with enamel colors. Limited edition of 250.

Love is a fascinating crystal sculpture created in partnership with French artist Jacques Villeglé, born in 1926 and one of the founding members of the New Realism group. A precursor of street art, Jacques Villeglé ended up working exclusively on the principal of lacerated posters, “by taking the poster, I take history.” His work lets beauty hidden by the thickness of paper, torn or damaged with time, emerge from urban chaos.
$11,070
Signed by Jacques Villeglé, LOVE is a work of art full of symbols that inaugurates the art season at Daum. In four letters, the artist plunges us into his vibrant atmosphere of street art, and imagines a dynamic interpretation of the themes of love, culture and politics. This magnificent work invites us to discover symbols steeped in history such as the Cross of Lorraine, the Euro sign or even a heart pierced by an arrow. All these symbols coexist in a crossing of tradition and modernity, and an encounter between know-how and street-art. Handmade in France.
