Bernardaud Marie Antoinette $83 - $2,903
Assorted Pieces
Queen Marie-Antoinette’s service was delivered to the Versailles palace on the 2nd of January in 1782 by the Royal Sèvres Manufactory. Its gracious Comte d’Artois shape, enhanced by its “pearl and cornflower” decoration, is enchanting in its delicate simplicity, its decoration placement seemingly improvised. The cornflower, a simple wild flower, was a favorite of the queen. It was the color of her eyes and she would gather them in fresh bouquets at the country retreat of her hamlet in the Petit Trianon. Cornflowers are placed between two rows of pearls, set against a green background, and highlighted by golden filets. Looking as if they have been freshly gathered, a simple bouquet of wild cornflowers decorates the center of the plate. Only two of the original pieces from this celebrated dinnerware service can still be found as part of French national collections: one is held by the Versailles château and the other by the Louvre Museum. Handmade of fine Limoges porcelain in France.
$83 - $2,903

Meissen Blue Onion $74 - $4,613
Assorted Pieces
In 1739, Meissen discovered a unique combination of cobalt and oxygen by that resulted in the ability to create rich blues that would survive the extreme heat of porcelain firing. The first pattern to use this new color was Blue Onion, inspired by East Asian motifs of pomegranates, peaches, bamboo, lotus blossoms, and chrysanthemums. Then as now, the underglaze is handpainted with fine brushstrokes onto the fired and porous substrate. The color quickly penetrates deeply into the still absorbent material, appearing dull grey. Only after glazing and a second firing at a temperature of 1,450° does it acquire its magically radiant, cobalt-blue hue. A sturdy overglaze protects the décor and makes it dishwasher-safe. The famous Crossed Swords of Meissen, used since 1888, can be found at the foot of the bamboo stalk. Handmade and handpainted in Germany by Europe’s first porcelain manufactory.
