Drawings were sent to China to instruct artists there accommodate the changing tastes of the West. One French merchant wrote "Send no more dragons, but let us have flowers instead." Emmeline's plate shapes are contemporary, while the styling is on French white body, a departure from the classic Chinese grey body porcelain.
