Herend Antique Iris $80 - $1,565
Assorted Pieces
Reintroduced in 2007 with a revitalized color palate, research has revealed that this pattern dates from the 1850s. Four different central motifs depict an iris flower. This flower has been used for centuries (dating back to the Egyptians) as a symbol. In fact, a fleur-de-lis is actually a stylized iris and while many royal houses of Europe (including Hungarian kings) have used it, it was the French who popularized it by incorporating it into their flags and crests. For them, the three petals of the iris (or fleur-de-lis) signified faith, wisdom and valor.

Herend Forains D'Orient $175 - $1,255
Assorted Styles
A pair of cups created in Vienna, Austria in the early 19th century inspired the FODO pattern.
$175 - $1,255
Initially, the motifs on European porcelain pieces were copies of their far-eastern models, but while the characteristic Chinese and Japanese motifs usually carried a symbolic meaning, the makers of their European counterparts used them purely for decorative purposes. This style, known as Chinoise, was widely used in art and design, and the set depicting Oriental characters is a stunning example.
The rim of each snow-white piece, the lid knobs and the sprouts are lavishly gilded and the dishes are adorned with various combinations of six Chinese figures, birds, dragons, plants on a gold-speckled background.
In the second half of the 19th century, Herend was authorized by Emperor Franz Joseph to use the patterns. Herend artists did not simply adopt these motifs, but reinterpreted and adjusted them to their own painting style, as evidenced by this pattern.Assorted Styles

Herend Songbird Dessert $165 - $195
Assorted Pieces
Rothschild Bird depicts the activities of two "notorious" songbirds in a garden in Vienna. However, as if to protect their innocence, Herend painters have always deliberately obscured their exact breed and lineage. In celebration of the pattern's 150th anniversary, the artists were inspired to revisit this famous backyard and while not unmasking the original culprits, they wanted to create a crisp new interpretation by featuring specific breeds. Furthermore, in honor of the numerous American admirers of the pattern, the artists focused on North American songbirds. While these birds may not be as legendary as their necklace-snatching European cousins, they are certainly famous for their vocal contributions to the avian chorus. Featuring a black-capped chickadee, eastern bluebird, yellow warbler and a robin, the Songbird pattern is being introduced on the 1520 dessert plate.
