Michel Coste has a highly original and unique approach to art: carving directly into stone. Known also for his passion for writing, Coste handcrafted the Aurora with his favorite elements at play – the silhouette of a woman frozen in amber pâte de cristal, where the interaction between light, transparency and opacity is highlighted as much as the softness of her curves. Her long shawl, seen here sumblimed into crystal adds dimension, texture and further elongates her form, as she seemingly powerfully strides towards the viewer. By combining these elements, Coste created this elegant statue as testimony to the grace, power and beauty of the female form.
Each Daum crystal piece is made using the rare and ancient "Pâte de Verre" glassmaking technique, which dates back to 5,000 BC, involves melting many fragments of colored crystal within a mold. This results in intense colors and subtle shading. Handmade in France. Limited ediiton of 175.
