The particular ancestral know-how that went into making the finer details and the suave curvature of each piece requires great mastery of crystal making. Since the beginning of his career (a 1990 graduate of Paris’ ENSCI-Les Ateliers, Paris Design Institute), Jean-Marie Massaud has been working on an extensive range of works, stretching from architecture to objects, from one-off project to serial ones, from macro environment down to micro contexts. Major brands such as Axor, Cassina, Poliform, Toyota have solicited his ability to mix comfort and elegance, zeitgeist and heritage, generosity and distinction. For Daum, Jean-Marie Massaud has designed the Kumara vase in ink blue in a limited series of 25 and the grey vase in a limited serieis of 125. Beyond the purity of the lines, the depth of the colors crystal invites us to decipher the cabalistic signs inscribed in the matter. The Kumara is a powerful piece, a crystal block animated by an intense interior life, with an enigmatic character. “The “pâte de cristal” expresses its qualities in the depth of the matter and hence its sculpted from within.

In honor of the 140-year anniversary of the Maison Daum, the creation workshop wanted to draw inspiration from the influences of the past to reinterpret the Art deco style of the 30s, with a new collection: “Empreinte”. From glass to crystal to floral inspirations, Daum honors its heritage through the “pâte de cristal” and the lost wax techniques. The orientation of this collection came naturally, following a reinterpretation of the iconic mushroom lamp “Resonance”, inspired by the Art Nouveau period. The Nancy workshop wanted to pay tribute to the second strongest movement of the French Decorative Arts, in which Daum has played an essential role. Three vases and two candleholders are featured in this collection that echoes the history and rich heritage of Daum. This large gilded vase is the major piece of the collection. The buttercups and plants sculpted in the material by the modelling workshop are transformed into a modern work of art, while embodying a traditional craft.

This color was inspired by the autumn leaves of Ginkgo, as they turn into beautiful golden yellow leaves that persist for several weeks. As Ginkgo leaves fall, they form a golden carpet around the tree.
